WHAT TO EXPECT:
This may be the best decision you make all year. It won’t seem easy at first. Mountain biking is a challenging endurance sport and those first climbs will be tough on your legs and lungs but by the end of the season you’ll be conquering mountains you never thought you’d see the top of.
Our training season begins in June. By July, we are training in phases so that everyone is prepared to race by early September. The team is divided into strength and skill-based groups to appropriately challenge each rider and provide coaching in small groups. All groups have similar practices and training. We expect every rider to give their best effort in practices.
WHY MOUNTAIN BIKING?
Mountain biking is a life-long sport. Our team is focused on team and individual growth, teamwork, hard work and fun! We provide students who desire to mountain bike with the skills to achieve both competitive and non-competitive cross country mountain biking goals in a safe and fun environment. Training with our team provides life lessons in fitness, nutrition, self-discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
ARE THERE RISKS?
Accidents can happen and bike racing does involve risk, but we are committed to coaching and training our student athletes on the skills needed to generally ride and compete safely. Statistically, we suffer fewer serious injuries than mainstream sports, especially contact sports.
HOW BIG IS THE COMMITMENT?
Mountain biking team season begins in June and ends in early November. Beginning in June and until the end of season, practices will be held 3 times a week. Students athletes are expected to attend as many practices as possible and show a dedicated effort. We treat each team member as a responsible young adult. If a rider has other commitments that preclude them from riding, they are expected to ride on their own time.
